We are lucky to be fueled by an incredibly valuable and abundant

resource--our people! This great network of high school students and teachers, grad students, post docs, staff and faculty members is what makes our program robust, dynamic and fun.

Coordinator

Kara Helmke

This is Kara's third year working with the UCSF iGEM team! She was trained as a cell biologist and biochemist in the lab of Rebecca Heald at UC Berkeley and has always dreamed of working in science education. She is having a lot of fun learning about the field of Synthetic Biology and loves teaching and working with students hands-on in the lab.

Wendell has had a lab at UCSF for over 15 years and has been an adviser to the UCSF team since it started in 2007. He enjoys working with bright, open-minded young scientists and seeing their ideas develop into scientific projects.

Mentors

We have had the great privilege of working over the years with a number of talented UCSF graduate students and postdocs who have helped guide the students through their projects. The group changes from year to year, and the comprehensive lists can be found on each iGEM team year's wiki (see Projects).

The 2014 list includes: Kevin Hartman, Leonardo Morsut, Michael Broeker, Zairan Lu, Hyun Youk, Anusuya Ramasubramanian, Alain Bonny, Ben Heineike, PJ Buske, and  Jonathan Asfaha.
